“8/8 of the most innovative automotive companies in the world run SAP solutions”, says SAP on its website and no one is surprised by this information. SAP, as one of the most popular software corporations worldwide, delivers enterprise software to companies from 25 industries. Which automotive companies decided to use SAP as their ERP?
The Big Three
There are many more such companies than eight. However, SAP tells us about the eight most innovative automotive companies in the world. According to the 2019 study carried out by CAM, the most innovative carmakers come from Germany. Currently, the three most innovative ones are Volkswagen Group, Daimler AG (Mercedes-Benz), and BMW Group. Indeed, all of them run SAP solutions.
Volkswagen manufactures Audi, Bentley, Lamborghini, Porsche, SEAT, Škoda, and other world’s best-known brands. The VW Group has been cooperating with SAP for over ten years, and they initiated the co-innovation project for IFRS 9 hedge accounting, which extended the SAP Treasury and Risk Management application.
Mercedes-Benz (Daimler AG) admits that “has been a trusted SAP business partner for many years” and underlines the SAP’s cooperation with the Mercedes-Benz EQ Formula E Team. As the Official Business Performance Partner, SAP provides the team’s engineers with back-office solutions such as SAP HANA, SAP Cloud Platform or SAP Leonardo.
BMW Group has been running on the SAP S/4HANA platform. BMW decided for this solution to manage the stock, invoicing, and cost of retail handling.
Right behind the podium, there are Tesla, Hyundai, Geely, Tata Motors, and Groupe PSA. There are eight of the currently most innovative automotive companies in the world. Tesla used to run SAP solutions but gave it up in favour of in-house ERP. As far as we know, Hyundai, Geely, Tata, and PSA use SAP solutions in their business processes. SAP best practices for automotive are also used by other companies. It confirms SAP’s position as a market leader in delivering software for the automotive industry.
